Frequently Asked Questions

Architecture & Technology

What is the architecture of NoteworthyEHR? NoteworthyEHR uses a multi-tier application architecture which can be deployed across one or more physical servers. The application architecture includes an application server, database server, reporting facilities and an interface engine. One additional component, the EHR client, is where end-users interact with the application. The client program can be deployed in several different ways. What technology platform does NoteworthyEHR use? NoteworthyEHR uses the Java 2 platform, the standard for enterprise applications. The industries' top relational database platforms from Microsoft, Oracle and IBM are also used to ensure integrity and scalability at the database tier. The EHR client runs on Microsoft Windows XP, and the servers run on Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server. Does NoteworthyEHR support tablets PCs? NoteworthyEHR supports Windows XP Tablet Edition. Some of our clients choose to give their providers tablet PCs and give desktops or laptops to administrative and support staff. This deployment configuration allows doctors more flexibility in location, while providing computing resources to generally stationary employees.

We have found that some users adapt to the eccentricities of mobile usage better than others. Before making a commitment to using tablet PCs for charting, we strongly recommend that users try a tablet PC for normal non-EHR use. This will allow the user to form an experienced opinion about tablet computing.

Some issues about using tablet PCs to consider:

  • What do you do when your battery runs out?
  • Will you carry a power cord and plug-in in every room?
  • How comfortable are you carrying around a device all day?
  • How do you audit and secure your wireless network to prevent unauthorized use of your wireless network?
  • How do you ensure that your tablet is not misplaced or stolen?

  • Tablet computing is a significant commitment; we want you to be as educated as possible about your decision!
    Integration

How does NoteworthyEHR integrate with other health care applications? NoteworthyEHR has implemented a real-time, message-based integration engine which supports interfacing with practice management and billing systems for demographic, scheduling and charge information. By leveraging industry standards such as HL7, customers can quickly integrate NoteworthyEHR with their existing healthcare applications.

Utilizing industry standard protocols such as HL7, we have already implemented clients using solutions such as:

  • NextGen
  • GE Centricity
  • Vitalworks Promed
  • DST MDR Practice Manager
  • Source Medical AdvantX
  • Emdeon
  • IDX
  • PCC
  • MicroMD

Noteworthy Medical Systems has completed interfaces to both Quest Diagnostics, and Labcorp. Noteworthy's Professional Services Team can also create specific lab or radiology interfaces with with any lab or radiology system a customer has.
  • Can you interface with clinical diagnostic machines? We can interface with any system that generates proper HL7 messages (version 2.x). If the diagnostic machines systems support HL7 messaging then interfaces can be implemented using our established practices and procedures. Security

How do you ensure secured access? NoteworthyEHR uses standard user/password techniques for user authentication. In addition, we can establish access rules to ensure validation for specific functionality within the EHR, allowing organizations to provide restricted access to different types of users. Performance And Scalability

What size practice can NoteworthyEHR support? NoteworthyEHR can easily adapt to small, medium and large practices. Our multi-tiered application architecture supports such practices with the scalability of its middle and database tiers. By implementing multiple middle-tier application servers, NoteworthyEHR can leverage existing computing capacity and can grow as your practice does. How do you ensure responsiveness to the end-user? NoteworthyEHR uses intelligent data-caching mechanisms at the client and application tiers to ensure provider and patient data is immediately available for use during the encounter. The application servers can also be strategically placed in a WAN environment to ensure responsiveness to remote end users.
