Background
Physicians to Children is home to 10 pediatricians, one nurse practitioner and nearly 70 staff. Averaging 56,000 annual patient encounters, PTC caregivers pride themselves on the comprehensive, compassionate and competent care they give to families in the Roanoke Valley, VA, area. The independent practice was honored in 2005 with a Certificate of Superior Performance as a Better Performer by MGMA.
The Challenge
After serving the pediatric community for more than 50 years, PTC sought a technologically-advanced EHR that would not merely support the award-winning service and care they provide, but one that would enhance that care. Although a NextGen PM client, PTC rigorously evaluated single-source solutions for more than two years without finding one that would meet their needs, particularly in regard to pediatric content and smooth implementations. “It became apparent to us that we needed a more intuitive product with better pediatric content than what we’d previously seen.
NoteworthyEHR stood out among the competition in ease of use of documenting encounters and improving practice efficiencies,” said Dr. F. Randall Burton. “We were also impressed by their commitment to continually improving an exceptional pediatric product.”
Our Solution
“Noteworthy exceeded our expectations during the planning and implementation process,” said practice administrator, Brenda Anderson.
“We found Noteworthy’s implementation model to be far superior to other products. Repeatedly, clients confirmed Noteworthy’s planning and implementation methodology was instrumental in their ability to transition to an EHR without sacrificing productivity.” Prior to go live, the Noteworthy Professional Services Team assessed the site’s clinical needs and workflow in order to streamline processes. “Noteworthy was particularly helpful in assisting us with new workflows, which improved practice efficiencies,” said Anderson.
The Results
NoteworthyEHR’s powerful clinical documentation system now enables PTC to deliver more efficient, more effective pediatric healthcare. “Two weeks after go live we were already seeing 100 percent of our scheduled patients in NoteworthyEHR,” said Anderson. Dr. W. Austin Spruill immediately experienced the improvement: “The first time I did a referral I couldn’t believe how simple it was! Although our processes were effective before NoteworthyEHR, now we authorize referrals with the click of a button.
We didn’t realize how much better it could get.”
PTC’s determination during its EHR search paid off with point-of-care documentation that is both sophisticated and easy to use. More importantly, with NoteworthyEHR they are also acquiring an unprecedented level of patient data that will enable them to administer an entirely new dimension of patient-centered care.
