Background
Knoxville Pediatric Associates (KPA) was originally formed in 1996 when two of the oldest, most well-established practices in Knoxville merged; a third practice was added in 1998. The three practices of KPA now comprise five locations and serve 40,000 patients, translating into nearly 150,000 visits per year. KPA employs almost 200 staff including 30 physicians and 3 nurse practitioners.
The Challenge
KPA merges three unique practices, with a conscious effort to maintain the integrity of each practice, its goals and philosophies, within the larger group. As KPA began its search for an EHR, they faced the typical challenges of wanting an easy-to-use system that would increase efficiencies within and between offices, as well as ease the demands of paperwork and improve profitability. Due to their unique setup, KPA needed an EHR company that could protect the integrity of its three practices. Their search led them to NoteworthyEHR. "As a practice we felt it important to step forward into this area of technology, but it didn't take long to realize all the other benefits—for us and our patients—that came with it," said Patty Adham, KPA's administrator.
Our Solution
Prior to go live, the Noteworthy Professional Services Team assessed the sites' clinical needs and workflow in order to streamline processes while maintaining each practice's uniqueness. According to Timothy W. Thurston, M.D., "Our overall concept, which has proved very successful, has been to permit individuality rather than promote or require sameness. Noteworthy was able to work within that environment and provide individual workflows that maximized NoteworthyEHR to each office setting while still maintaining the seamlessness of the overall application."
The Results
Going live at all five locations simultaneously made for an exciting week. "We thoroughly enjoyed the Noteworthy team and were grateful for the assistance they provided. Everyone feels great about what we accomplished," said Adham.
NoteworthyEHR's powerful clinical documentation system now enables Knoxville Pediatric Associates to deliver more efficient, more effective pediatric healthcare throughout its individual practices. They also benefit from having access to the most reusable data provided by any EHR. Knoxville Pediatric Associates can now improve patient safety, master the management of business operations, optimize clinical workflow, and achieve true interoperability between clinics.
"We selected NoteworthyEHR for a variety of reasons, but we are definitely enjoying the ease of use," said Thurston. "And the teamwork that the Noteworthy system provided our group will only make us stronger."
